We have a couple of species of pit viper here on Okinawa, as well as large, venomous centipedes.
In general, people are more worried about the centipedes than about the snakes. The snakes are more dangerous if bitten, but they have the sense to try to avoid humans. The centipedes don't and they're aggressive, so you can easily get bitten even if you're careful.
