I have an old recipe book that instructs you to preheat the pan first before putting the mixture into it. Agreed. That was a new one, but I have some faint memories of my grandmother scoffing to my mother from the other room, "Don't forget to preheat the pan first!"
I'd forgotten about that. Good to know it works with mechanical things as well.
