When I was seven, I was in hospital a lot. Several of my friends had polio, some were in iron lungs.

I also had kind nurses who helped with my learning while unable to attend school, and bought me some model kits.

Then I was able to help with building experimental medical machinery out of meccano.

My first scientific research job. 😀
