DMA has rules specifically for “gatekeepers”, which are the biggest. The proposed ADPPA in the us has so many tiers I’ve lost track — including an exemption from some requirements specifically for Cambridge Analytica-sized companies. But of course Cambridge Anslytica highlights the challenges with this approach, big tech companies will look for clever ways around any regulation. As you say, the devil’s in the details. More positively though one of the few topics that has bipartisan agreement in the US is the need to do something about big tech, and the EU agrees … we’ll see if it translates to anything effective
