* It is illegal to export the Tunisian dinar.
* It is illegal for Tunisians (residing in Tunisia) to deal in foreign currencies without prior approval from the Central Bank of Tunisia.
* It is illegal for Tunisians (residing in Tunisia) to hold/receive/import/transact with any ATM card issued outside Tunisia without prior authorization from the Central Bank of Tunisia.
* Tunisians (residing in Tunisia) are unable to make online purchases for non-Tunisian merchants as a result. The only option is a 'Technological card' that is hard capped to 1000 TND / year; obtainable only to those who passed the national baccalaureate exam. As a result, no Paypal, Netflix, or any other service (blackmarket only).
* You _cannot_ use WesternUnion/equiv to **send** money out of Tunisia without prior authorization from the Central Bank of Tunisia.
I'm fortunate enough to reside abroad, which gives me an exemption to all of the above.
Do you see why we need Bitcoin? Cryptocurrency use is not explicitly outlawed but it is a grey area (and there have been cases of harassment). BTC adoption is practically zero because of the lack of any fiat onramps/offramps.
Sadly, Strike/CashApp et al. are not available where it really matters.
