Evac must have been traumatic and even worse having to live in SJ, even temporarily! Actually, I quite like SJ but glad to be here instead. I miss friends, partners, the Indian and VN food, the farmers markets, etc. I drove over the hill most Wednesdays to the downtown market in SC, also to have tea at Hidden Peak.
My partner and horticulture mentor for the last 10+ years is coming to visit in mid July so I sent her your PDF which we'll consult before planting.
Your current setup sounds idyllic! I suspect there's far less chance of fires here but, with climate change, one must be prepared. Having all those animals must be a lot of work but so gratifying. I had chickens in SJ, which was kinda silly since I'm vegan but I inherited them from my son and a roommate. They all died and I didn't replace them as I knew we (my adult son and I) were going to move within a year or two. We just have 2 cats.
