Trying to create unity by scapegoating an Other was the main mistake the US Democrats made in 2016. They tried to make Agent Orange into a Jokeresque supervillain. Sadly for them, this *didn't* convince the undecided to vote for a Mrs Freeze, ready to trash entire countries to revive her husband's dying political legacy. Instead, as it turned out, the "basket of deplorables" were so alienated, that presenting Agent Orange as a man who wanted to watch DC burn just made him more attractive.
