Some riders are there to be social and do comfortable recreational riding, some are there to go fast and hard but not particularly to compete with each other and try to drop people out the back of the group, and some groups are full bore competitive and will drop you in a moment. Accidentally picking the wrong group for your tastes is a definite problem, and I expect their forums are quite different.
