In a lot of sports, most people aren't seriously trying to improve, but I think it would extremely rare for getting coaching or reading about technique to be considered cheating, e.g., almost no climbers really seriously try to improve, but when someone gets serious coaching, I've literally never heard of anyone saying that's ruining the sport, cheating, etc. (it's a big world, so I'm sure someone has said that ever, but it must be quite rare).
