Here in our rural town, in addition to state-run programs to deliver food, we have a tow council on aging and various private support groups who offer weekly communal meals, informal “mutual aid”, and regular wellness checks. We have many people in our town who live at home and intend to do so until they pass. Sometimes, they pass for reasons that others might see as being because they are “no longer able to care for themselves.” From their point of view, they are living out their last days in the place that makes them happy and where they plan to die.
