2. False. They don't need to control the server to do that. Any operator that runs a signal server can opt to do the same. The user should be able to choose which server operators he/she trusts to keep that promise.
3. I give Signal the credit for the algo. But I don't buy that they are actually "privacy-first". They are as much about data gathering as other folks in this space.
3.1. But yes, there is a risk that people will move to another garbage. But that risk is better than trusting a single company with all of our combined metadata. That NEVER goes well.
