This is a lie. They were british subjects and could petition the king like any other. Just like we can now.
Like do these john hopkins researchers not realize the UK/british commonwealth/canada still exists?? We have a charter of rights and freedoms granted to us not through civil war (as the only means of legitimate political change allowed by the crown) but through over a century of peaceful political change and slow, imperfect but continual redress. Y'know, canadian style.
