Consider the example with a room thermometer.
You look at it, it shows the number on a display. You think it is a room temperature.
But room temperature is already an abstraction. It is the interpretation of the number you see, which you make based on a ton of assumptions included.
You assume that that the room has a more or less stable temp over a period of time, and that that display is a thermometer, and it checks the air, and the air freely circulates in the room...
