3 decades later, the last of InterCity's competitors has retreated from running scheduled services, now supplying buses for charters only. At times IC has refused to serve many smaller towns at all. Leaving people who can't afford to own a private vehicle suitable for long distance travel effectively marooned.
The competitive market for long distance coach travel in Aotearoa has comprehensively failed. It's time to return InterCity to public ownership.
