Sometimes, even using all of your gracious people skills, it's still shitty. Or your kid is so deeply unhappy that you don't have time to really work the system.
Some reminders on that, too, though how you use them will be highly specific to your circumstances:
*Though you will be made to feel in a seemingly endless variety of ways that your kid having a bad experience at school is ONLY ABOUT THEM and then, failing that, IS PROBABLY THE FAULT OF YOUR FAMILY, you're going to have to believe me on this (it's true): the system plays hard to the middle 50%, skewed just a bit to the right, and would rather eat you than change. If blaming you will solve its problem with the widget that doesn't fit, it will definitely start there. But if your kid is miserable at school and happy at home, the issue isn't home. Don't buy the gaslighting. Get the support you need. An educational advocate can be a godsend- google it plus the name of your state.
*YOU ARE ALLOWED TO GET CREATIVE AND OPT OUT.
