All that said, we know that for a variety of reasons (underfunding and collective failure of belief in public good and thus in 'other people's kids' chief among them, together with deeply punitive and often difference-isolating ways of structuring community) school experience often doesn't live up to what it ought to.
And sometimes, for particular kids and families, it's just shitty.
IN THAT CASE, some further wishes and encouragements.
*Remember that, however clueless or misinformed they may be in some ways, your kid's teacher could definitely be working in another sector- this is a place of CHOICE for them, in a culture likely rife with pressure and threat. Work WITH them.
And if you are lucky enough to have someone willing to take some risks, get creative, try to connect with kids as learners, NEVER NEVER throw them under the bus even when you feel anxious as a parent or want things to be different.
*Work WITH admins and other professionals, too. Systems are made of people.
