I don't have kids, so I can only see this from the outside perspective.
But doesn't this mostly come down to:
- Service providers having the necessary features that allow users to control what they can\can't see with sensible defaults in place, and parental controls
- Parents taking responsibility for what their kids are doing
With regard to WhatsApp specifically - not sure how the group add feature works but if it just plops you in groups without asking consent then that feels not good
