I just read a really good post talking about the "consciousness winter" we (humanity) experienced. It makes a good case for materialism probably not having the answers to consciousness: https://www.theintrinsicperspective.com/p/the-risk-of-another-consciousness
the tl;dr is: Materialism has failed to deliver despite many decades of bright minds thinking and technological evolution, and there's a orthodoxy around it that is deeply entrenched in most, if not all, relevant sciences.
