BTW, one thing that interested me was this part of the article:

I can well believe that - you have to buy in a lot more child care if you're a single parent. But I hadn't realised the gap was that large. (Incidentally I don't believe those figures. I've brought up a child on less than that - I know it must be less than that, because I know what my salary's been through the period.)
