But I think that reducing inequality and improving public services necessarily reduces the strength of anti-immigration politics even without that change in public perception.

Anti-immigration views tend to be presented as an absolute, either completely pro or completely anti. But in reality, it's part of the mix same as everything else. Polling has shown for several years now that the prioritisation of immigration is less than it was in the middle of the last decade (behind the NHS and cost of living in popular priorities). Improving people's lives may not stop everyone having negative views of immigration, but it removes the power of those views.

I'm not saying we shouldn't aim to educate people that immigration isn't the problem - of course we should! - but rather, that social attitudes to immigration and the practical impact of anti-immigration politics are ultimately different problems with different solutions.
