I have an especially emotive pet rat (and his three friends, rats need rat friends) who's shown anxiety about realizing he has a disability, searched for a new home when I cleaned his cage *too* well one time, given us "come on, I know you're hiding a bigger piece of food" looks, groomed my hand while I drained his cyst to tell me he understood I was trying to help, and many, many, many times has greeted us with over the top eagerness to hang out, and ignored food in favor of human playtime. Also his mind basically runs on fomo, if you are doing a thing, he wants to do it too.

He is absolutely going to break my heart one day.
