So that (hopefully) answers the initial cut issue. Also dragging the lame blade through some flour before cutting helped make the slash more even.
But my slashes aren't 'holding' either. I'm pretty sure that's because this is a 100% hydration dough. The slashes fill back in before the edges set. I just end up with an area without flour on the crust.
