Three brothers each inherit an acre of land on their 18th birthday.
They can use it however they wish.
They also receive 10,000 seeds from the Ministry of Agriculture.
There is only enough habitable land for 1 acre per person in the world.
There can never be more. And if an individual owns 2 acres, another person owns none.
Within one week, the first brother chooses to sell the land. He wants the money to pay for university fees so he can earn more money in a high-flying job.
The second brother plants the seeds in his land, but the returns are meagre, barely enough to scrape by. The quality of the seeds is not the same as it was. The plants’ yield worsens each year. To top it off, he must pay the government to provide new seeds each year.
However carefully he manages his farm, and however hard he works, the harvest worsens.
He mortgages half of his land to pay for Miracle-Manure to transform his next crop.
Decades ago, their grandparents grew enough to produce surplus grain.
They sold it to build their house.
Their wealth grew.
They even kept some of their best slow-grow, high-yield seeds in a box in the attic.
Twenty-four seeds for each acre, says the accompanying note. And unlike the government-issued seeds, these ones regrow with a new crop each year.
Upon finding the seeds, the middle brother says, “We need more grain NOW, not in four years. How will we ever make a profit?” He laughs. “No wonder they invented Miracle-Manure!”
The first brother got his university-graduate job, but he’s never able to send any money back to his struggling brothers. He’s got ever-increasing expenses in the city. He can’t even save up enough to buy a house, so he’s trapped paying rent.
The Miracle-Manure doesn’t help much at all, and the crop remains roughly the same. He needs to increase the amount, so he mortgages the rest of his land to afford a new shipment.
When he turns 18, the youngest brother decides to perform an experiment.
He will plant one of the ‘slow-grow’ seeds, clearing 1/24th of the land and sacrificing 4% of his crop for delayed gains. The next year he will plant two seeds, then four, then eight, then the rest. That way, he has time to see if the system works. If it doesn’t, he still has most of his original harvest each year.

By the time the slow-grow seeds are sprouting, the first brother is burned out from working in the city. He needs a higher-paying job just to keep his family on the same level as before.
The second brother has failed to repay his mortgage as the Miracle-Manure didn’t change his fortunes. He now works on another farm, and is paid a low wage.
The youngest brother struggles for years. Other farmers think he is crazy for selling his extra government-issued seed. But as his grandparents’ seeds begin to sprout, the mighty plants produce a much higher-quality grain, and in greater amounts too. His crop goes from poor, to better, to magnificent, as he converts more area to the slow-grow seeds.
Soon, he has a surplus like his grandparents. He expands the house and buys land from struggling neighbours. As he plants more, and harvests his grain each year, his family thrives.
All seems lost for the two older brothers. One has lost years to stress and chasing ever-higher positions, while remaining trapped in the inner city. The other resents working for land-owners who pay him less each year as profits never materialise.
“Brothers,” says the youngest. “Come and live with me. There is room for all of us to live as our grandparents did.”
They eagerly agree.
“Wait,” he says. “There is a condition for you to take control of your own acre of land again.”
His brothers await the catch.
“You may never sell the land, or it could be swallowed by a centralized collective farm — the ones that keep us hungry with their poor nutrition.”
They agree.
“Use the slow-grow seeds. Be patient, and wait for the returns.”
The brothers discuss this, and return with a resounding ‘yes’.
“And the final condition?”
“Never use Miracle-Manure.
However many riches it promises, you end up paying for plain old shit.
The brothers agree.
They farm the land into abundance and spread the word of their winning agricultural system.
While most of the world ignores them, a few brave farmers switch over from the government-issued grain.
The seeds of change have been sown.

I don't use AI for text creation.
I'm an editor myself, and I hire editors.
I'm not an id'AI'ot. I believe that human labour enables people to push products to market that other humans actually want.
Turns out some 'writers' believe in nonsense.
I use AI sparingly, as a tool, and my books stand the scrutiny of actual readers. Some humans even feel emotion when reading my words. That's valuable.

The vast majority of paid articles are written in house. There are still some freelancers who have good relationships with editors and can get comissions. Still, it's rare in any writing niche in 2025.
The industry has changed.
Most paid work is B2B writing or copywriting.

Wrote a bitcoin humour piece especially for a pleb publication.
(Unpaid. Just for fun).
Submitted it to the magazine in November.
Enquired with the editors in February.
Told it would be published.
Waited until June.
Today I learned I am not included in the listed contributors for the issue.
It won't be published.
This is so disappointing after 6+ months of waiting. Not the way to run things.
They lost a contributor, customer and advocate.
Sometimes writing sucks.
On the plus side, I'll just publish it on nostr.
Fuck publications.
I don't need anyone's permission to be funny.

When I was a kid, a paperback book cost about £10.
Now? You can buy a No. 1 bestseller for £4.50.
What changed?

You’d expect the price of a book to increase.
£10 in 1993 is equivalent to £21.20 today
(even using the Bank of England’s laughably low inflation calculator).
Books are not cheaper to write. Quite the opposite.
Bigger teams are required to ensure a high-quality product.
Authors need computers, digital tools and subscriptions.
Paper and distribution costs are higher.
So why are holiday paperbacks so cheap?
The publishing industry ate itself.
Amazon ran bookshops off the highstreet.
Publishers could only turn a profit through mergers and acquisitions.
They bought up indie publishers and fired the staff.
Now, the Big Five publishers squeeze every drop of value from authors.
Most new novelists receive no advance and around 7.5% royalties
(34 pence per book before agent’s fees, taxes and other costs)
The Big Five (just like the big Hollywood studios) focus on a few major releases.
These books receive almost all of the marketing budget.
Publishers beg retailers to buy copies at costs so cheap they are making virtually 0 profit.
Prominent display in Tesco or Sainsbury’s means the book might become a best-seller.
(Yes, supermarkets are the biggest physical retailers of books in the UK).
Even the 0.01% of superstar authors are making a pittance on each book sold because of a broken system.
Not to mention that most writers face years of rejections before even signing a deal.
If you are a film-maker, an artist, or a musician, you’ll recognise this broken model.
Creative people have been corralled into the walled gardens of big tech (even worse than the Big Five publishers).
I used to dream of seeing my book in a bookstore with the Penguin logo on the cover.
Now, that thought disgusts me.
There are still some indie presses fighting the good fight, but they won’t last.
If you write, the value you offer is linked directly to the audience you build, not just the content you create.
I’m not saying this to tell you where to buy books or whom to support.
Just trying to explain the book industry and my place in it.
I’ve self-published books and had wonderful support from three indie publishers.
Writing careers are never linear.
Who knows what the future holds for my words?
With that said, I won’t be begging agents to read my manuscript.
I’m not aiming to be on the shelf in Tesco for £4.50.
I’ll focus on building an audience and delivering value to them.
And I'll be doing it here on nostr.

Bitcoiners - stop using boring AI art!
It’s hard for bitcoin businesses, thinkers, and founders to stand out. Especially when their images look so similar.
We pay attention to difference, not white noise.
Am I against Dall-E or AI images?
Not entirely.
They add colour and can be quite arresting.
It’s amazing that we can get art like this at the click of a button.
But I see 50%+ of those who post about bitcoin using Dall-E images. All so similar!
If you do this, you end up as noise not signal.
They make your posts look like a cheap Crypto News website 🤮
Readers are hypersensitive to image quality.
It’s what determines whether they give your ideas the time of day or not.

Ideas to use instead of instant GPT images:
1. Trust your words.
Craft a hook that draws readers in rather than an image.
2. Show your face (or at least A face)
Selfies are divisive, but readers like to see who is offering the thought. We connect with people.
3. Use image libraries.
Search sites like Pexels or Unsplash for scroll-stopping photos.
4. Spend more time prompting.
Ensure your image looks unique. This can take some time.

After studying history and embarking on a career in advertising, I ran away to join the circus. OK, not the circus (I can't do backflips). But I did leave the UK to travel the world and teach English.
Argentina, Mexico, and Asia opened my eyes to different people, attitudes and realities. I started to write - first a humorous travel blog, then articles and fiction. I've since published hundreds of stories and several books.
In addition to writing for clients, I began to coach writers online. One of those writers orange-pilled me, and I'm forever grateful. We still work together today🧡.
Since then, I've read a stack of #bitcoin books even taller than me (1.95m) and have gone deep into the rabbit hole of economics, money, and freedom tech.
In 2024, I shuttered my coaching business to focus full time on my two passions - #writing and bitcoin. Now I work exclusively with bitcoin-native clients and edit the @npub12xy…vqut series.
