I've thought about this a lot and actually don't have any good answers, especially at this point. The things that I think might work at an individual level - mediation, compromise - are nearly impossible at the level of government (I think this is true for Palestinians as well, actually). I do think that some kind of peace - uneasy but stable - might have been possible at various points. The current administration in Israel seems as bloodthirsty and bent on genocide as they usually accuse Palestinians of being, and seem to not understand their role in the hatred they have inspired.

True story: on a recent domestic US flight, I asked to opt out of the scanner, which means a pat-down. That was going fine until the woman had moved to my front and was moving down from my chest. She got to my ribs "what do you have here under your bra?"
"what?"
hits her hand against my my right side: "what's this?"
"my ribs?"
"oh- ribs! I forgot about those. Haha! I haven't felt those for a long time"
So many people who pass through that airport are fat enough that she forgot that ribs exist.

The constitution is not for citizens; it does not give us rights.
It's a limitation on the power of government. The importance of due process is spelled out in the constitution, which public officials swear an oath to uphold.
We really do not want those folks in the habit of ignoring due process.

I'm pretty sure that the timing of of wellness checks is based on the vaccine schedule (not on what the child would otherwise need).
That's why there are more and more of those check up appointments as shots are added to the schedule. When I was a child, we saw the pediatrician maybe once/year, and before that it was probably even less frequent.
In any case, it's a tricky balance! Best wishes as you navigate it.

Hep B seems like a no-brainer to me.
I delayed enough that they got no shots when they were small babies. My other guideline was that they never get more than one shot at a time because however weak the safety testing already is, the vaccines are definitely not tested together and it seemed clear to me that each one is a stress on those little bodies. I had a fair amount of resistance in my family, and in retrospect I wish I had held my ground more.
But the kids are good :)
You can read the vaccine inserts themselves. There's a lot in there that I think most pediatricians haven't read.
These seem to be the themes of researchers who buck the pharma narrative: the diseases were already on a sharp downward trajectory before the introduction of each vaccine; many of the illnesses have been rebranded (so we still have something that we would call polio but now it is diagnosed differently); the safety testing is poor, with studies designed very badly; some of the adjuvants are neurotoxins; and there are very few childhood vaccines that have had a true placebo control.
Personally I think the autism issue is a bit of a red herring. I doubt that a particular shot "causes" autism; more that each one is a systemic stress that each child will handle differently. When it's more than the body can deal with, you'll see a range of symptoms depending on the physiology of that particular child.
I have heard impassioned and well-meaning advocates make a decent general case for vaccinations, though I haven't yet heard them rebut some of the themes above. Their main argument is that the diseases are frightening (true), with the assumption that vaccinating against them protects kids (which may not be true).

Extrapolating the answer to my question from your second paragraph: maybe you believe that no one has died from the measles vaccine because the universities said so? (or: if someone had ever died from a measles vaccine, the university researchers would have found that out and announced it?)
One of the most common logical fallacies is "appeal to authority." In all of your responses - and thank you for taking the time - that appeal to authority seems to be the primary basis for your claims.

I think it's even worse than that. Saline is safe, but something going straight into the bloodstream is a pretty big deal for the body. We have many layers of skin to prevent that from happening, and the only other times something gets in that deeply is a crisis: a bite from a snake (or other creature) or a bad wound.
I'm not sure it's actually possible to have a true placebo for an injection.
But -yes - saline would be a good start!

I will say this in defense of folks who are strongly pro-vaccine: it's very hard to come to terms with the fact that this new life, which is the most precious thing we can imagine, is vulnerable.
I can fully understand taking any steps that would prevent something awful from happening, and if I had good reason to think that most of the (70 something) shots on the schedule were 1) safe and 2) effective, I would be advocating for them as well.
When we're healthy, in particular when the mother is happy and at ease, well nourished, gets lots of sun, etc - it's much less likely that disease will take hold. That's where I would put my energy.

If you have anecdotes about people dying of something that you think would have been prevented by a vaccine, it's probably useful to add to the conversation.

It's an assumption based on the idea that
-the studies are well-designed
-negative effects are reported
-negative effects that *are* reported change the marketing trajectory
None of these things are true. I'm not sure we'll ever know how safe different vaccines are.
(And that's leaving aside the absurdity of grouping all things that companies label "vaccine" into one category and defending that entire category regardless of adjuvants used, length of specific safety trial, etc.)

When I don't get too wrapped up in the whether it's literally true, I feel so much more free to learn from Christianity and from my Christian friends.
It seems to me that our modern time is weird this way. I assume that for most of human history, we had the stories that our tribal culture gave for the universe and we aligned our actions and beliefs with those stories. I doubt that there was any question of choosing a religion or figuring out whether we believed in it or not, but rather that spirituality was embedded in the way we lived in the world.

Yes, and when we outsource it we can distance ourselves from every negative aspect of protection.
I think that this was a big part of the defund the police/ACAB movement. If one rejects the shadow side of human life that involves violence it's possible to feel morally superior to the police without ever recognizing that you've made their role in society necessary because you've ceded your responsibility.

My earlier self would have said that I didn't own a gun. But expecting the police to show up and protect me meant that I did have guns; I had just outsourced my physical protection (and all my negative associations about guns) to the police.

It's like if you're on trial for shoplifting and feel that you didn't get a fair trial so you appeal it, and the DA says no - and by the way we also think this person broke into someone's home. They never actually arrest you for the break-in but you get 5 years for shoplifting because the judge is influenced by the break-in accusations (that you never get to counter in court).

There will always be power imbalances in a large society. Centralized systems = increasingly imbalance power
Decentralized = individual potential for rebalancing
Workplaces are not democratic (right - they're not designed to be democratic). It doesn't follow that capitalism creates tyranny.
Unfortunately, capitalism often devolves into corporatism (this has happened very clearly in the US), which is highly centralized, whereas socialism in a large society begins with centralization.

For swings, make sure you look at several tutorials first. Many people hyperextend their lower backs when they swing (at the top of the swing you need a bit of a hip thrust but it can end with a nice firm glute/neutral pelvis rather than with the pelvis way forward, which can put strain on the lower back).
In any case, kettlebells are awesome! so much you can do with them. I didn't add to the early list Bulgarian split squats 🙂

Hi, Dom! I don't know much about their new wallet, but generally speaking - if you're not particularly worried about privacy, a wallet like Proton is probably an ok place to keep some sats.
If you're building your savings in bitcoin (and you should build some savings in bitcoin as soon as you're able!), it's best to take the time to do research on wallets. A hardware wallet is a device that you use to access your bitcoin, and a "cold" wallet is one that doesn't touch the internet, so your private keys are not in danger of being compromised online.
If you haven't seen them yet, I would take a look at @npub1rxy…hnp8 YT videos. He has really great tutorials on many wallets.

I read what I could past the title - I don't have a subscription - but I'm not entirely sure it matters. Headlines and article titles seem to be the primary tools for shifting overton windows and shaping narratives. If he genuinely wanted to blame something other than the first amendment, that should have been reflected in the title.
Point taken though for my interpretation of what the author means. It's a fair assumption based on the title but idk for sure.
