Well said. The problem with the corruption of our institutions is that trust is eroded in everything.
Is there a problem? Of course there is, we've known that for over a century, and it became basic concern in the '60s. We could have avoided much of the problem had the environmentalists not thrown a hissy fit over Nuclear power. Now those same people are throwing hissy fits over oil.
The bottom line, however, is that energy is wealth. The bottom three quarters of the population want that wealth, and they are going to get it come Hell or High Water (no pun intended) and there's very little we can do to stop that. Nor, morally speaking should we stop that.
So we're going to be generating a LOT more power over the coming decades, and we'd better have a high capacity way of doing it that can be distributed economically. Wind and Solar will help; but will fall far short of what we need. That means lots of small nuclear power generators scattered all over the planet. Uranium at first, then Thorium.
One day we might get modular fusion plants, but that seems N years off no matter when you ask.
