Dead internet theory proposes that the majority of user generated content, and possibly curated web site pages as well, are the work of machines. As AI can generate words and pictures far faster than real people can, and there are many players motivated to flood the internet with their propaganda, the odds this is true increase daily.
This is a variant of Bostrom's simulation theory.
