It's good to celebrate the far-right losing in the #FrenchElection, but I want to qualify all the posts I see about "the left won."
The NFP is a coalition of parties that get called left, but it includes centrist parties like the Greens and reactionary parties like the Socialists (remember Manuel Valls? Google "ensauvagement"). Yes, the biggest party in that coalition right now is La France insoumise, which is quite a ways to the left of anything we are used to seeing in North America, but they are dependent on the alliance with a bunch of left-leaning moderates to actually exercise influence and win elections as a bloc.
Saying "the left won" in France is only a bit less true than saying "the left won" in Canada because the NDP has been able to force some of their agenda on the minority Liberal government.
