Slow #ssh access after "in place" upgrade from #Debian 11 to Debian12?

Only for users, not for root (and if you are that ummm... adventurous like me, than at least only access root with a ssh key!)?

Same Problem also with user1@localhost ssh connections directly on the server?

In a way, that the connection is established, but after verifying the key (or whatever authentication method is defined), it stales. For 2-3 min?
Even affecting git checkouts (of course when SSH based)? And of course SFTP (hello Lime Bar, this was the problem!) ?

I could bite my own behind, but I just didn't see it. I debugged my soul out of it and in the end was so sure, it's my "server" provider with his bloody virtualization solution. At least I know much more about SSH optimization now (let me just mention "reverse DNS lookup") - which btw. all didn't help here.

No, what you should do is look for this line in your journal (yes I said it: Journal. Because Systemd is a keepa! ;) ).

Failed to create /user.slice/user-[UID].slice/user@[UID].service/init.scope control group: Permission deniedGoogle it and you'll see:

The libpam-cgfs package is missing. Just install it and BANG, anything works now. Fast and smooth!

Why during the update something along those user systemd units and their Cgroups is installed and doesn't drag this as a dependency in, I dunno. It apparently wasn't needed in my Debian 11 installation.

So maybe there is someone out there, who may profit from this stupid problem of mine and its solution :)
