Most important thing to remember: PRACTICE GENERATOR SAFETY
Do NOT run it indoors
Do NOT run it in a closed garage
Do NOT exhaust it too close to a wall
DO run it in a well ventilated area (under your porch, in an open garage)
DO chain it up / bike lock it
DO treat it like a live bomb
Most of the deaths from Hurricane Ida directly or indirectly resulted from improper generator use. If you have a CO alarm, make sure the batteries are fresh. It saved my life because our generator vented into the attic from outside and filled the entire house with CO. If we had not had the alarm, I wouldn’t be here today.
