IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ
After months of consideration, I have decided to shut down wank.social effective Feb 1, 2025. There are 3 main reasons why:
First, my financial situation has changed and I no longer have the income necessary to continue to fund the site. I have asked for help in this regard and some of you have helped out and I'm extremely thankful for that but costs continue to climb each month.
Second, the political situation in the US has changed since I first started the site. There are age-verification laws in many US states that I do not have the legal expertise or financial ability to comply with. Also, many politicians are asking to get rid of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which would make me legally responsible for all content uploaded by any user. The writing is on the wall already and it's not going to suddenly get better.
Finally, my interest in the site is not what it once was. Life changes have forced me to re-prioritize things and I need to let some things go.
I know this sucks for everyone but I hope this advanced notice gives you some time to find another instance to join and move your followers there.
