I saw an ad that featured a family out camping, making corn tortillas "from scratch" using a tortilla press. It really annoyed me because there are two types of corn tortillas: The traditional one, made with nixtamalized ground hominy, and the modern, industrial one, made with dehydrated masa. The latter one is vastly inferior. Its texture is off, it dries easily and lacks the same nutritional value.

Tacos are my camping food. I've made and happily eaten hundreds of tacos out in the forest and desert. Never once have I made a tortilla from dehydrated masa. I will get ready-made tortillas and keep them in the cooler until I'm ready to eat them.

TL;DR: Don't bother making tortillas using a tortillas press when camping. It's not authentic, it's not as good and it is more work.
