A good reminder that gift giving is almost always wildly inefficient and tends towards toxic power dynamics. It's not just that the "pure gift" is unworkable for knowledge problem reasons, actually existing "gift economies" were highly unanarchist and riven with grotesque hierarchical games of social capital. They also required massive waste not just in material but in gossip. Socially *mandatory* gift giving, as with Christmas, should be the enemy of every anarchist.
