teto (nprofile…kz2s) the german AfD, more than a political party, represents a shift in sentiment among the general population, where more and more right leaning sentiments are being not only accepted but also being paraded.
the AfD's (relative) success shows to the rest of Europe that there is actually hope for the right in Europe, in the rest of Euro pe you can expect bolder right wing politicians, and also among them, parties that actually represent far right ideas to pop up and have their own voterbase.
really what matters here isn't the result of the actual election, but that shift in sentiment, it's the overton window swinging back to the right after years of infinite left wing sentiment.
the AfD isn't gonna make mass deportation happen, but what they did do is make sure a lot more germans, when they were previously opposed to the idea, actually open up to it.
the AfD isn't doing a good job representing the final idealism of conservative ideas, but what they are doing very well is making sure to make people accept right wing movements.
just today for example, i was able to talk to someone and convince them that even if a migrant is "good" for the economy, they are bad for the society.
a few years ago i wouldn't have gotten away with it, but now with the AfD a lot more people are open to those ideas, and while they don't represent right wing idealism, it is finally letting people actually discuss it freely.
