in reality ordinals, if widely adopted, help the network by providing a base demand for block space, just like miners do for the power grid. with their help the fee market could find the real transaction value (which doesn't happen right now), they'll be easily outbid by important transactions because due to the size they need to pay $100 to compete with a regular transaction with $1 fee.
