After that, I took an honest look at what I saw around me (I live in a super Progressive pocket of my state, but often visit the deeply GOP areas where I have family, and the prettiest hikes and rivers and lakes are). I had to admit I'd been making ugly assumptions about one group, and looking past really ugly behavior by the other.
