I'm teaching a freshwater lab this week, and we found a rarely seen Catenulid flatworm today!
Their name comes from the Latin 'catenula', meaning 'small chain', as when they asexually reproduce, they often form long chains of individual zooids.
There's a genus of these bizarre worms which lacks a digestive tract, and appears to get their nutrition from intracellular symbiotic chemoautotrophic bacteria!
