Did no-one actually read Frank Herbert's books before deciding that "Dune" would be worth watching?
Of course it's rubbish. The story was rubbish. It's just that it was uniquely different rubbish, that's all.
Same with Game of Thrones. If you'd tried reading it and discovered that a) nothing important happens and b) every character that has any sympathetic values dies, you'd know not to bother watching it.
The Wheel of Time was on my list for "next one they'll try to film" but apparently they already have. An easy couple of hundred seasons there for sure if you play your cards right ...
My prediction for the next "discovery" ... The Elfstones of Shanarra! Or hey, we have the CGI budget to bring the works of Piers Anthony to the big screen! No, not those ones, the Xanth ones, pervert.
