I actively use Matrix (as much as I dislike it), and I don't keep up with it. Such newsletters are great for people really into it, but most users won't care that much.Dendrite [...] along with PostgreSQL takes up under 500 MB of memoryBut then you're using a homeserver which is behind the official reference implementation in features, and frozen in development so unlikely to ever be on par. I also think 500mb is pretty significant to me for a small chat application to selfhost, most of my selfhosted services don't need that much for 5 users or less.as long as the participated room count and traffic is lowI'm in dozens of IRC channels, and a dozen or so XMPP rooms, both perform pretty well. I don't dare to join to many rooms or big rooms on Matrix because the performance (whether this is matrix.org's performance or Element, I don't know) goes down the gutter when I do. It's already plenty slow being in only 8 rooms. That's not a great advertisement, and it's been like this for all the years I've been using Matrix, so it seems to me the developers don't mind this atrocious performance.socially organizing this is rather difficultIt doesn't have to be, there's not much you need to do as Matrix devs other than have a list. Surely the people at the core of Matrix are aware of some other people hosting a public Matrix service that is reliable and trustworthy? I mean, if they don't even know of any, is the Matrix network as a whole even reliable or trustworthy?
