Arrived today, new blocks for engraving. Wood engraving differs from woodcut in that the image is cut into the polished endgrain of very fine-grained species (see ALT text) using tools derived from metal engraving. The image is drawn in reverse onto the polished surface that has been inked and allowed to dry. The design is revealed in unstained wood as it is cut. The finished block is given a thin coat of letterpress ink with a hard rubber roller and printed by burnishing or with a press.
