If you have not heard of Suno.com it is basically Midjourney but for music.
Last week Suno announced that they will be hosting a competition over the summer giving away $1 million in prizes. See their blog post here: https://suno.com/blog/sos
As a homesteader I'm always looking for ways to generate passive income. There are several ways people are using Suno to make money. Some are publishing music and listing it on Spotify, some are starting Youtube music channels, and some are using Tiktok.
I have toyed with the idea of making some homestead music albums. We’ll see if I get around to making that.
What I am excited about is this contest. I created the above song specifically for it. If you could give it a listen, smash that like button, and share it that would be awesome! If any of you have songs you have made on Suno, shoot me a link and I will do that same.
Here are my top 5 tips I’ve learned while using Suno:
1. Use the custom mode.
Custom mode gives you more control over the song allowing you to improve it.
2. Lyrics are the heart of the song – don’t just use the AI generated ones.
If you are not going to write your own, use the Suno AI to come up with the first draft of the lyrics. I have found the Suno model gives better results than Chatgpt or others.
You can have Suno generate lyrics in custom mode by typing what you want the song to be about in the lyrics dialogue box and then hit “generate lyrics.”
Use the AI lyrics as a first draft. Often the AI will write lines that don’t really fit just to make sure they rhyme.
Go through line by line and rewrite as necessary. If you want some help on how to improve the lyrics, I have had good results working with the Claude-3-Haiku model (https://poe.com/Claude-3-Haiku).
3. Don’t expect the first couple songs to be very good.
V3.5 of the Suno model does a good job, but you should expect to iterate several times until you find the sound you are looking for.
4. Use the extend function in custom mode.
If there is a part of the song you don’t like or the AI does something silly (like sing the 2nd verse twice) you can use “extend” to have it generate the song again from any point in the song.
5. You can use the extend function to add lyrics to an instrumental.
I have done this on a few of the songs I have made. I find a melody I like, come up with some lyrics that fit, and then extend the song after the first melody phrase has played. I did that process with this song and think it turned out great. (https://suno.com/song/84a4e2f7-2847-4845-ab23-19fbf5cd3f4e)
