Budapest, 1963. The graduation ceremony for Hungarian high school students (ballagás) is a moving and deeply-rooted tradition. After four years together, graduating students parade slowly around, arms on each other’s shoulders signifying their unity, saying goodbye to the school and singing farewell songs. They carry small decorative bags with keepsakes, and the traditional gift of flowers from family and friends.
