FWIW, kind 30040 isn't the only event kind with JSON in the content field. NIP-46, NIP-44, and NIP-04 notably use JSON content. I don't really like it in those cases, but I sorta get why it's there.
This goes back to my question from a few weeks ago about why we never extend the base event JSON and instead cram everything into tags and content. I understand why, but it forces developers into some weird patterns.
More thoughts in a few minutes.
