hey just a reminder because the political press always seems to forget: the "debt limit" is a made-up thing imposed by Republicans as a deliberate pinch-point to reduce government spending. it's not a normal part of budgeting, it's not in the Constitution, and no other country in the world does it. we could stop playing this dangerous game of chicken every few months by just removing the debt limit, but the GOP doesn't want to do that. this entire thing, every time, is because of Republicans.
