so, been reading up on the treatment the vet gave me to give him... Imidacloprid is one of the ingredients, which i know is an extremely effective insecticide with fairly long persistence in the fur that stops reinfestation for 1-2 months, the other is an antiparasitic drug called Moxidectin
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moxidectin
you might guess right if you notice its similar name to ivermectin, and it is similar and related... it mentions in there that a major part of the effect this drug creates is to paralyse the neuromuscular cells of parasites, i guess it probably includes even amoeba, all kinds of worms, and probably even has some limited effect on actual arthropods liek mites
and sure enough, the symptoms he has displayed, ataxia and stupor are indeed effects of this chemical, he is mostly fully recovered from the effects and indeed last night at one point he was nauseated but that cleared up... so he was hit pretty hard by it...
it's kinda handy the timing so i give that to him, and he's easy to handle until this afternoon when i will take him to the vet and then he'll most likely get some ketamine type general anaesthetic for the little tiny keyhole operation he's getting, and probably the antibiotics he is almost certainly going to be given for his gingevitis will probably knock him around for another day, but thoon :trade_mark: he will be all healed up and no bugs in him, or on him, and hopefully no infections, he will be a new man
looking forward to that because his obsessive cleaning behaviour is not healthy and i know he's doing it because of probably the combination of fungal/bacterial infestation from the constant dampness and insects probably partly also feeding off the waste of the saliva and bacteria
it really kinda demonstrates to me also how important antiparasitics are, i think i need to try and get myself a course of ivermectin
also, the fact that ivermectin is the most effective one-shot for covid should say something... it kills blood parasites... covid obviously has blood parasites in its mechanism, i've speculated even that it's actually a hybrid of blood parasites and the virus is just a trigger, like the parasites are the powder and the virus is the primer
