Agreed. Most issues of higher ed can be traced back to trying to 'manage it like a business' rather than the public good that it is.

The transactional nature of college is not something we should be trying to increase. I would much rather think of students as the products of higher education - critical thinkers we send into the world, rather than consumers purchasing a degree.

Abandoning the business metaphor entirely would be even better.
