I'm plowing through Stephen Graham Jones' Indian Lake trilogy (finished the first two over the weekend, eagerly looking forward to the third) and I had a revelation: horror novels don't scare me.
I can think of two moments in my life where a horror _book_ has scared me: Lovecraft's _The Lurking Fear_ and Danielewski's _House of Leaves_, neither in the last 20+ years.
I read a decent number of them, and tend to enjoy them... but they're never _scary_.
