The sun still rises in the east and sets in the west in the southern hemisphere so first mark is west, second mark is east. Noon shouldn’t matter with a 10-15 min difference. Or you could wait for it to be directly overhead if you want to be absolutely on true north. You would want to verify throughout the day to make sure you maintain your bearing anyways. But I am interested in testing this to see how much variation in angle it would be during different times of the day. Perhaps 3 points to account for any curvature. Any thoughts on another method to get a rough bearing?
