I might also add that in 1997, when I started working -- and I don't mind sharing this with you -- I was earning R2000 a month, before deductions. Which was a decent salary for a 17-year-old kid still living in his parents' house. I was putting away half of it every month in savings (I was always a saver. Always. I was the one who would save his monthly pocket money for six months and eventually buy that big thing he *really* had his heart set on. My brother was the "have money, will spend" person. I often denied myself things now in order to save for later. And still do).
I'm not going to tell you what I'm earning NOW, but it's... significantly more than that. 😜
