You said "the process involved (Assange) being questioned first", meaning before being charged. That's absurd. It's not how criminal prosecution works.
If the Crown can't charge a suspect without questioning them first, the Crown really has nothing. End of case.
The only situation where questioning Assange could be required before bringing charges is if the Crown was looking into charging one or both women with something. (Or a third party, but I can't think of one right now )
