I think the issue with Steam Client on Wayland is that it is also a multi window app and last time I checked that was still in limbo on a protocol level in bikeshedding hell. So Steam probably won't be supporting Wayland anytime soon. Have most distros also already switched to Pipewire? I'm under the impression that it plays a vital role in Wayland screen recording

Also I don't think people would appreciate having to click off that dialog every time Steam or a game starts because it has to request user permission to record the screen. It sounds very much like Valve would rather it happen automagically, like advertised
